Sat Navs and Mapping software are so last century !!

If you put in our postcode – GL16 8EN – most of them lead you to a dead end in the middle of a series of houses on the other side of the wood and expect you to walk!

SO NO. What3words is now the way to go for the enlightened traveller!

gold.tune.plantings is the reference for our front gate. And the turn off is at recording.await.banquets . that will get you to within three meters fo where you need to be. And that should be enough for anyone but ht most confirmed luddite!

If on the other hand you still insist on your trusty lodestone and parchment then here’s how you get here – from near and far!

From Bristol and The East

Take the M32 and M4 west onto the M48 over the Northern Severn Crossing and then turn off towards Chepstow on the A466. At the next roundabout take the third exit A48 into Chepstow and then out again over the river Wye. About half a mile further on turn sharp left on the B4228 signed to Coleford and The Forest of Dean ( as well as St Briavels, Woodcroft and Tutshill). At the top of the hill there is a mini-roundabout. Take the third exit signed Coleford 12 miles.

At the lights in the centre of Coleford, just before the Kings Head Hotel, turn right signed for Speech House, Cinderford and Gloucester on the A4028. After 1.2 miles, you will come to Beeches Garage (GL16 7DA) on your left.

Slow down!

200 yds further on, just beyond the derestricted sign and a red strip of tarmac on the road, take the small right turn into an unpaved forestry commission track. We are at the end of the track about 150 yds into the woods.

From the South

Take the M5 north turn left on the M4 and then follow the instructions above, as from Bristol.

From the North and North East

Take the M1 south to J23A then the A42 and M42 all the way to the M5. Head South to the M50 and follow that right into the centre of Ross on Wye via the A40 and the B4260 Gloucester Rd.

From the centre of Ross turn left onto the High St B4234. This road takes you 8 miles south out of Ross, through the village of Walford, along the very pretty banks of the River Wye, through Drybrook and up to a crossroads with the A4136 signed to Coleford and Monmouth. Turn right towards Coleford. About a mile further on, just as you reach Edge End, fork left onto High Beeches Ave signed to Coleford on the B4028.

Half a mile further on slow down. About 100yds before the 40mph sign and the Mile End sign – i.e. as soon as you can see it – look left and you will see a small Forestry Commission track leading into the woods. That’s us. 100yds down there.

If you get as far as Beeches Garage (GL16 7DA) on the right you’ve gone 200 yds too far. Turn round come back and turn right into the track.

From The West

Take the M4 heading East, then the A40 North towards Ross on Wye.

At the traffic lights in Monmouth, you can’t turn right, so head to the next roundabout and come right back to the lights and turn left signed to The Forest of Dean. After 6 miles turn right at the traffic lights in front of Five Acres Nissan garage.

Half a mile further on, at the cross roads, turn left, go past the Beeches Garage (GL16 7DA) on your left and then slow down.

200 yds further on, just after the derestricted sign and a red strip of tarmac on the road, take the small right turn into an unpaved forestry commission track. We are at the end of the track about 150 yds into the woods.

…that’s all folks!!
