The Essentials
Two domes, one stay. First designed in 1948 and now rarely seen, the Double Dome pairs a 17ft exo-dome with a 12ft bed-dome, set face-to-face across the deck. A private, hotel-standard bathroom sits between them, so everyone gets breathing space without splitting up.
The larger exo-dome has an external stainless-steel frame and a lightweight inner shell. Inside, there’s room to spread out, play cards, read, or sleep up to four. Across the way, the bed-dome keeps things snug: a triple bed set low in the floor and a large roof panel made for stargazing. Couples tend to claim the sky. Families tend to claim the laughter—either works.
The Double Dome sits within The Dome Garden’s small woodland site in the Forest of Dean: eco-minded domes, fires and stoves you light yourselves, and pizza nights that feel like a proper occasion. If you don’t want to cook, there’s an informal café for easy food and good coffee.
Call it glamping if you like, but it’s more than cushions under canvas. You get the comforts that matter, then you add the rest: quiet time, owl calls, deer at the edges, and children discovering that eggs come from hens, not supermarkets. By the end, the kids are happily worn out, and so are you.
