Those who know us, know we built and designed all the domes here. What some don’t realise is that we also build them for other people through DOMEWORKS, our busy little sister company.
Most recently we were asked to build two domes for TESLA, the giant electric car company, to show off their cars in the alps. Actually not ‘in’ the alps, more like ‘on’ the alps.
So, that’s what we did – in four weeks flat. We imagined, we drew, we planned and we designed an entirely new dome, based on the amazing work of the Dome Of Visions project in Denmark. We then cut, welded, painted, bolted, screwed and clipped the entire 4,500 piece jigsaw puzzle together in four days of beautiful, but sub zero, weather up in the alps.
It was a bit tricky at times, not least because it involved co-ordinating the work of 16 different tiny artisanal companies in the UK – plus one bunch of idiots over in France. There were problems, sure, two of the companies here messed up the cutting and drilling of the poles, and the company in France, who were building the deck, simply didn’t read the drawings.
But, despite that, we worked our way around them and The TeslaDome has now popped up in both Val D’Isere and St Gervais Les Bains to the delight of all – including Tesla themselves.
The Val D’Isere dome is still there, as we write so, if you’re skiing past, do tip your hat to our Little Sister Domeworks.co.uk
And if you want to instagram it, post it with the hashtag #domeworks.
